Help save Quackers! And, why there is no better time to give than right now.

As a non-profit sanctuary that, for the sake of the animals, is not open to the public, Martha’s Farm Animal Sanctuary relies solely on donations to keep our doors open for the growing family of nearly 100 farm animals in our care. We truly need and appreciate your support.  There are many reasons to help year round, but there is no better time to give than before the end of the year.

Most importantly, by giving now, you can help Martha’s Farm Animal Sanctuary to do more good and timely year end work. We are currently gearing up to build another rooster coop, having rescued 17 roosters to date, and keeping them separate from the hens, these bachelors are running out of space. We are also caring for many high needs animals that require intense medical care. Quackers, for example, is our only male duck, a Drake. With an injured foot, we were initially given a grim prognosis, but we took him to an Avian specialist vet for imaging, special tests, blood work and medication. We adore Quackers, as does everyone who meets him, and we are trying to save his foot. It is looking hopeful, but there is a long road and many expenses ahead of us.

The second reason to give now is the tax write off.  To count toward your 2022 taxes, you must make contributions by Dec. 31, 2022. For individuals who itemize deductions, a gift to a qualified charitable organization like Martha’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, allows you to claim a charitable contribution deduction against your taxable income. When a gift is deductible, it will reduce your taxes paid for the year 2022. Visit IRS.gov for additional tax details on year-end giving. Don’t forget to keep your receipts. When tax season arrives, you want your donation records to be easily accessible. This can save you from a potential headache when filing taxes in the upcoming spring.

Thirdly, giving now helps to get in the holiday spirit. The holiday season and its traditions are filled with messages of gratitude, generosity, and a spirit of helping others less fortunate. Inspired by the giving spirit, many people not only shop for gifts for friends and family, but direct their money to favorite charities as well. Holiday giving also offers a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate to children gratitude and compassion for others, including animals.

Finally, at this time of year, many employers will match a percentage of monetary gifts to the nonprofit of the employee’s choice. You can potentially double the impact of your donations.  Reach out to your HR Department to learn more about how donation matching works at your place of business.

Thank you in advance for your support. We promise to keep you updated on the roosters, Quacker and the rest of the gang, and wish you and yours a very happy holiday season.
